Is there any risk for children and pets?
ATSB® has a low human and environmental risk assessments thanks to three key features:
- low insecticide loading.
- presence of a feeding deterrent (Bittrex) to prevent children and adult feeding on the bait.
- protection of the bait matrix by a membrane to avoid water, soil and non-target organisms’ exposure.
Is there any risk to honeybees?
Extensive field trials demonstrated that bees are not attracted and cannot access the bait. This will be further monitored through additional trials.
What are the expected success rates of ATSB®?
The product is still being evaluated in malaria endemic countries with results of large-scale trials expected in 2024/2025. When deployed at scale in communities, it is expected to significantly decrease mosquito population and lower malaria transmission.
Is this method applicable also for other blood sucking flying insects?
ATSB® is proven effective against the major disease-carrying mosquitoes (Anopheles, Culex and Aedes) as well as sandflies.
Are there any requirements from the homeowners?
Two bait stations are hung on the exterior walls of each structure at a height of 1.8 meters above the ground, for a period of six months. Homeowners will be entrusted to keep the bait stations on their walls to enable ATSB® to provide protection.
